This class will demystify basic electrical concepts related to electrified door hardware and provide you with a systematic approach to perform basic troubleshooting steps and enable you to make simple repairs.

  • The relationship of volts, amps and ohms to the operation of electrified locking hardware 
  • Power supply considerations 
  • Types and operation of common switches 
  • Wire gauge requirements 
  • Multi-meter use 
Upon Completion of This Course, You Will Be Able to:
  • Explain the difference between AC & DC as well as fail safe and fail secure devices 
  • Calculate the total amperage rating needed for a power supply by analyzing all of the loads in a circuit 
  • Use a multi-meter to check voltage, resistance and continuity to perform basic troubleshooting steps 
  • Connect a momentary push button, Von Duprin fail safe electric strike, and power supply 
  • Utilize a chart to check wire gauge based on voltage, amperage and distance between the load and power source
